Ting Chiang is a Taiwanese actor, director, producer, and TV host born in Xinchang, Zhejiang, China. He debuted in 1963 and was affiliated with Yahuang International Entertainment (亞凰國際娛樂). During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Ting moved to Sichuan with his father, a Navy officer, and in 1949 relocated to Taiwan, settling in Ziqiang New Village, a Navy dependents' village in Gushan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He graduated from the Drama and Film Department of the Political Warfare Cadres School (政工幹校) and later joined the ROC Army's Lu Guang Theater Troupe (陸光話劇隊). In 1961, Ting became a contract actor for the Central Motion Picture Corporation (中央電影公司) and directed his first film, Poison Fire Palm (毒火掌), in 1969. Ting married actress Li Hsuan (李璇) in 1971. Following their marriage, he shifted to producing films tailored for her. The couple moved to the United States in 1976, and in the early 1980s, Ting returned to Taiwan to work as a producer and director before gradually retiring from the entertainment industry. He had one son with his first wife, a non-celebrity, and two children, a daughter and a son, with Li Hsuan. In July 2022, Ting suffered a minor stroke and ceased performing. After a fall on January 15, 2023, he was hospitalized and passed away on January 27 due to low blood oxygen levels at the age of 87.
