Vin takes a deadly risk to pay for his mother's treatment when his old friend Itt draws him into Mirage Arena, an underground fighting circuit where fighters gain superhuman powers thanks to the God Skin nanobot tattoos. Amid the violence and a gambling crowd, Vin reunites with Praewa, his first love, who is now entangled in the arena's dark dealings. As the competition turns deadly, Vin learns that the tattoos are destroying his body. He has to uncover the truth about the operation and survive before the power that holds him becomes his end.
