A Japanese town stands by a large lake. A single mother who loves her son, a school teacher who cares for his students, and the children live quiet, peaceful lives. But after a fight at school, it turns out that the sides of the conflict describe what happened differently. An ordinary childhood quarrel gradually grows into a loud story that draws in society and the media. And one stormy morning, the children suddenly go missing.
