Three separate stories about love, lust and selfishness. In the first, fraternal twins fall in love with people who look identical: the brother becomes involved with a prince of the Liao kingdom, the sister with a poor scholar. The second follows a scholar entangled with a courtesan who resembles his wife. The third tells of a scholar who becomes the object of affection of a fish spirit and an earthly girl.
