Ken and Din, a young forest officer, have been together for more than seven years when Din gets entangled with a gang smuggling illegal timber. The gang hunts them both down, and, cornered, the two fall from a steep cliff. Ken wakes up months later with no trace of Din at his side. Years pass, and then people who strongly resemble his lost partner begin to appear around Ken, and he starts to wonder whether Din might still be alive — and might be one of them. The book was adapted into the series Chains of Heart.
