On the advice of a fortune-teller, Phloeng, a young man educated abroad, has to become engaged to Saengrawi, a boy whose ill-starred age is meant to ward off the misfortune foretold for Phloeng. Phloeng refuses to be pushed into an arranged match and gives it six months: if nothing grows between them, the engagement is off. Their uneasy truce changes once eerie, unexplained things begin to happen around Rawi, and Phloeng finds himself standing between his fiancé and whatever is haunting him. The book was adapted into the series After Sundown.
