Fifa, a high-school graduate waiting to start university, is sent — much against his will — to look after his grandmother in a remote province before term begins, and decides to treat it as practice for living on his own. There he meets Hem, a national park officer old enough to be his uncle, who gave up on love long ago and now spends his days with animals and the green of the forest. Fifa's bright, easy-going presence gradually opens a door in Hem's quiet life. The book was adapted into the series Lost in the Woods.
