Kanfah, grandson of a renowned herbal healer from Mueang Mang, sets off with an attendant on a family errand to Wiang Atsawa. On the way he meets Thayu, a mysterious man from a southern realm who is looking into the teak trade — and who has just been framed for murdering an envoy of Mong Pyu, while the real killer hunts him down to stir up war between the two lands. Kanfah saves Thayu from a widow spider's venom and the two continue together, drawn into a trail of deaths and disappearances that leads towards the forbidding mountains locals call Mon Moeng Mang. The book was adapted into the series Mon Merng Mang.
