Alan is an ordinary young man with gaps in his memory — until he starts seeing the ghost of an unfamiliar old man every time he looks into a mirror. His father dismisses it as hallucinations and has him admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where Alan meets Darwin, the bright, warm patient in the next room, and the two grow close. When no treatment makes the old man disappear, Alan begins to wonder whether he is being haunted rather than imagining things, and sets out with Darwin to recover the past he has forgotten. The book was adapted into the series Mystique in the Mirror.
Book blurb
Alan was just an ordinary young man with a fractured memory. Until the day he began seeing the ghost of a strange old man—staring back at him from every mirror. His father believed it was nothing more than hallucinations and sent him to an outcast psychiatric hospital. There, Alan met Darwin, the bright and endearing boy in the next room. What started as simple companionship soon grew into something deeper—love. But no matter how the doctors tried to cure him, the ghost remained, looming behind him in every reflection. As Alan and Darwin search for answers, the truth slowly unravels: perhaps this isn’t madness at all, but a haunting tied to the memories Alan has long forgotten—memories entwined with the old man in the mirror, and the very foundation of the hospital itself.
