In early 2011, SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) formed two separate groups, EXO-K and EXO-M, with plans to have one perform in South Korea and the other in China. He made his debut in April 2012 as EXO-K's main vocalist with the Korean version of their first EP, "Mama". For several years, the groups performed separately until the release of their third EP, "Overdose", in 2014, when they began performing as a single group and have continued to do so until now. In 2014, he made his acting debut with a role in the movie "Cart", for which he also sang one of the OSTs. In November 2023, his contract with SM ended, and he decided not to renew it. A few weeks later, he announced the creation of Company SooSoo (컴퍼니수수) with a longtime manager for his solo activities and acting. His activities with EXO will still be managed by SM. On November 5, 2025, he joined Blitzway Entertainment after leaving Company Soosoo.
