Kang Seul Gi, known mononymously as Seulgi, is a South Korean singer, dancer and member of RED VELVET (레드벨벳). She graduated from Seoul Performing Arts High School. Before debuting, she was selected by SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) in 2007 during a public audition. She became part of SM Entertainment's pre-debut group SM Rookies and also appeared in the MVs for Henry's "Butterfly" and "Fantastic". She made her debut in August 2014 as the group's main dancer and lead vocalist with the single "Happiness". SM wanted them to portray two different sides with their music, a more daring and lively side (Red) and a demure and elegant side (Velvet) and they were immediately successful, earning numerous awards since their rookie year. In July 2017, she was part of the TV show "Idol Drama Operation Team" and later became part of the project group GIRLS NEXT DOOR (옆집소녀) alongside 6 other female idols. They released the single "Deep Blue Eyes" and acted in their own drama called “Let’s Only Walk The Flower Road”. In July 2020, she debuted alongside Irene in the group's first sub-unit, IRENE & SEULGI (아이린 & 슬기), with the mini-album "Monster". In December 2021, SM decided to create a new project called GIRLS ON TOP (걸스 온 탑). The concept involved 7 female idols from the company joining forces to form a group with a rotating lineup depending on the genre, theme and other factors. She was part of the project's first group, GOT THE BEAT (갓 더 비트), and released the digital single "Step Back" in January 2022. SM ended the project after 1 year and 3 months after Kakao acquired part of the company. She debuted as a solo artist in October 2022 with the mini-album "28 Reasons".
