Shim Chang Min, also known under the artist name Max Changmin, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, dancer, actor, and member of TVXQ (동방신기) and S.M. THE BALLAD (에스엠 더 발라드). He graduated from Gaepo High School and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Film Studies from Konkuk University and a master's degree in Cultural Management from Inha University. He was recruited by SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) when he was only 14 years old. He was not interested in becoming a singer, but his mother was a huge fan of BoA, so he convinced him to audition. He made his debut in December 2003 as TVXQ's main vocalist and maknae with their first single, "Hug". The 5-member group was immediately launched into mainstream recognition, and their first 4 albums received chart-topping commercial success in South Korea, with "Mirotic" winning the Golden Disk Award for Album of the Year. They became one of the first K-pop groups to establish a solid fanbase in Japan and were signed by Avex Group (エイベックス・グループ) to represent them in the country. But, despite TVXQ's huge success, they fell into legal turmoil and internal conflict when members Kim Jae Joong, Park Yoo Chun, and Kim Jun Su attempted to split from SM in late 2009. He decided to stay loyal to the agency, and the group stopped promoting together. TVXQ returned in January 2011 with him and U-Know Yun Ho only, releasing their fifth album, "Keep Your Head Down", which continued their legacy as one of Asia's top-sellers. He also made his acting debut later that year with a role in the drama "Paradise Farm". In February 2014, he joined the project group S.M. THE BALLAD, consisting of various artists under SM Entertainment. They debuted in November 2010, and the group reunited in 2014 with a new lineup that included him, releasing their EP, "Breath". However, they have been inactive since then. He enlisted for his mandatory military service on November 19, 2015, and was discharged on August 18, 2017. After serving, he has been active as an actor, he made his debut as a solo artist in April 2020 with the mini-album, "Chocolate", and continues to actively promote as part of TVXQ. In 2020, he announced his marriage to his non-celebrity girlfriend, and in 2022, they had a son.
