Song Qian, known professionally as Victoria Song, is a Chinese singer, dancer, actress and leader of f(x) (에프엑스). She began formal dance training at the age of ten, and in 2005 was admitted to the Chinese Folk and Ethnic Dance Department of the Beijing Dance Academy, where she studied Tibetan, Mongolian, Uyghur and other traditional Chinese dance styles. While at the academy, she participated in numerous domestic and international performances, and in August 2006, won First Prize in the group division of the 8th “Peach and Plum Cup” Dance Competition for her performance of “Red Coral”. In September 2007, she took First Prize for modern dance with her solo “Painting of Sound” (画聆) and Second Prize for the Yi‐ethnic group dance “Flower‐Waist Bride” (花腰新娘) at the Beijing City Dance Competition. It was there that SM Entertainment scouts discovered her, and by December she began a two-year traineeship—studying Korean, hip-hop, acting, singing and advanced dance—ahead of her formal debut. She made her debut in September 2009 as the group's leader, main dancer, lead rapper, sub-vocalist and visual with their digital single "La Cha Ta". The group was managed by SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) and was known for releasing full-length studio albums during an era that saw mini-albums as the most common way of releasing music. She made her debut as a solo artist in March 2018 with the single "Roof On Fire". In September 2019, she announced her departure from SM Entertainment. The group has not officially disbanded, but aside from a few brief reunions for SM events, they have not released any new material since late 2016. She created her own label, Victoria Song Studio, which is affiliated with Yuekai Entertainment (悦凯娱乐) as she continues her career in China.
